The Week in Geek 08/31/07

Not a huge amount of news this week, but I'll do my best.

Big PS3 releases meet mixed reactions.

While Xbox owners were content with playing the Game of the Year, and Nintendo fans marveled at the first actual Wii-game of the year. Sony, let a bunch of their most anticipated titles out of the bag. Heavenly Sword, Warhawk and Lair (next week) have all met with mixed reviews. Heavenly Sword seems to be the highest rated of the three, despite a boring combat system. Warhawk did well, but $60 for a multi-player only title seems like a stretch. Finally Lair seems to be a giant Sony turd, with "forced" motion controls and annoying combat. It seems that Sony fans will have to wait a little longer before they can justify their $600 purchase.

Wii is the fastest selling console in the UK.

Wii sold a million consoles in the UK within 9 months. Pretty impressive considering Nintendo was DEAD last in the UK last generation. World domination continues.

Videogame related video of the week:

Murs - Murray's Revenge

Watching this video, its pretty clear the director played ALOT of Mike Tyson's Punch-out as a kid

That Murs video is tight.  You may not know the whole story, though.  The guys who created the video had the entire storyboard set up for a rapper in Denton, TX who goes by Matt P.  This kid's trademark rap is to a beat with samples from the Tyson Punchout game.  Funny how this video showed up just a little while after Matt P and the video's creators collaborated.
