Played about 3 hours last night. First thing's first, I am in Metroid heaven. This is easily shaping up to be the best Prime game yet. Considering how much I love the series, this is saying a lot. So a few things I want to point out.
- The controls are fantastic. I guess any game that takes an hour to really learn shouldn't be considered the easiest game to control, but just like any new experience, it just takes practice. FPS controls have never felt so fluid. The wii mote gives you the maneuverability of a analog joystick, and the aiming of a mouse. It's the really the best of both worlds. No keyboards or Analog aiming makes a big difference. In my impression its the best FPS control Ive ever played, and it really adds to the overall experience.
- The level design is unmatched. Sure the first intro level was a bit boring, but the first real "world" you land on is full of organic life and old ruins. Just like the first Prime, every room is completely different, with plenty of huge environments to explore. Platforming is once again handled with perfection, and puzzle solving plays a key role. I've already found plenty of hidden items thrown around the world, which of course is the secret to the Metroid franchise success.
- The bosses are bad ass. Ok, I've only played 3 total, but the last two were epic in every sense of the word. Playing on Veteran mode may have something to do with this though. It seems my shots do very little damage to most bosses. Causing much longer and drawn out battles. It keeps things very intense.
It's safe to say that, for me, this is the best game I've played all year. Of course I don't own an Xbox and I'm sure games like BioShock will get all the glory this year. Prime 3 is easily the best game on Wii at the moment, and Mario and Smash Bros will have some serious competition for Wii title of the year.
