Releasing a Simpsons movie after being on the air for 18 years seemed risky, but apparently, America still loves the Simpsons, as it scored the 5th biggest opening of 07 this weekend. Besting even Pixar/Disney's latest Ratatouille, I guess hand drawn animation isn't completely dead. The film attracted all age groups, and with positive word of mouth, it looks like it could be one of the most successful films of the summer. I guess all that crazy Fox marketing worked.
The other films that opened this week didn't fair as well. No Reservations scored a below average showing in 5th place. It might have something to do with the film looking extremely snobby and shallow. I Know Who Killed Me didn't get any help from Ms. Lohan's recent 24 hour news coverage. I guess not all publicity is good publicity. Who's your Caddy opened up in 10th, and will be in your local Best Buy within a few weeks.
