This Week's Music 01/30/2007

This week saw very few interesting titles. The biggest release would probably be

Clap Your Hands and Say Yeah - Some Loud Thunder

If I was going to pick the most overrated, overhyped band of the last few years, Clap Your Hands would easily be on the top of that list. Loved by bloggers, hipsters, and pitchfork writers. CYH has to be one of the most annoying "indie" bands making music these days. The lead singer sounds like David Byrne doing an elephant man impression. The music sounds similar. So, even though I hated their first record, I decided to give them another chance. First off, the first track on this record is easily the most irritating song I've heard all year. Singing out of a loud speaker (wait, i think they did this in the first album) would sound better. Sure, the rest of the album isn't nearly as dreadful, but whenever the band really starts showing us why they have a fan-following, the lead singer opens his mouth. I was also unlucky enough to see these guys live last year at the Langerado fest. Like many others standing there, we just walked away. These guys are just not for me. 4.0

That's it for this week, if you want a Norah Jones review go read Rolling Stone or something.

PS. Nothing against Ms. Jones, I have a new found respect for her after she admitted in EW to seeing Evil Dead the Musical multiple times. She also picked M.Ward as one of her favorite songwriters. Very cool indeed.

I'm glad i'm not the only one who doesn't get Clap Your Hands. It was getting lonely in my little cave of hate.

I do own a couple Norah Jones albums though...

nothing wrong with Norah Jones, just seems like the wrong place for something like that.
