Dammit Lucas!!!. When Lucas released the Star Wars Trilogy on DVD a few years back, he made it VERY clear, that he would never release the original films. Stating that the new "revised versions" were the "real" versions of the film. Fanboys complained, but eventually got over it. Then two years later Lucas announced that the original films would finally be released on DVD. Of course, this shows just how EVIL Lucas is. Considering the new re-releases contain both the 2004 edition and the originals. Many fans I know already have multiple sets of the original SW wars trilogy (I have bought 4 total in my lifetime). So NOW after Lucas has already won our money, he decides to release these films as the fans wanted them in the first place. The NERVE!!. It gets worse, the original films are nothing more then the 1994 remasters. So what is a die-hard Star Wars fan to do? Let's go through the Pros and Cons
Pros:
- Greedo shoots first
- No awful Jabba tail stepping
- No CG filled Mos Eisley
- "La Petnik" original Jabba Palace song
- "Yub Nub" original Ewok song
- original Jedi ending
CONS:
No ENHANCED WIDESCREEN!!
No Surround Sound!!!
VHS Picture Quality!!!!!!!!
No BOX SET!!, each film will have to be purchased seperately. Which means this will cost more $$$ then the original release!!
So as you can see, the fans may finally be getting the originals they deserve, but at the cost of a lackluster experience. This is just so lazy and greedy of Lucas. He knows the super fans will buy this regardless. So what's a fanboy to do? Sadly, I'm extremely tempted to buy these regardless. My biggest fear isn't getting a lackluster performance, it's the good chance that Lucas will re-release these AGAIN, only with an updated transfer. Who's to say he won't? It's clear Lucas will re-release these films over and over again, further draining our wallets to infinity.
So, I've made the decision NOT to buy. If I get these as a Xmas/Birthday present, well, I guess that's ok. Let someone else spend their hard earn money on these DVDs. I sure won't. I'm sure I'll be buying the HD-DVD/BluRay DVD set in the future anyway.
